The Art of Gathering: A Night for San Diego’s Creative Community
Planning events is often about creating experiences for everyone else. We spend our days designing beauty, solving problems quietly in the background, and bringing other people’s visions to life. The Art of Gathering at MCASD was created to flip that for one night. I wanted to bring our San Diego event and creative community together and give everyone a chance to simply enjoy, connect, and feel appreciated.
The evening felt calm, intentional, welcoming, and full of warmth. The galleries were glowing, the ocean air drifted in through the terraces, and familiar faces filled the space in a way that felt grounding. I watched people slow down, relax into the environment, and reconnect with why we do this work. It reminded me that our community is filled with storytellers, artists, makers, leaders, and problem-solvers who care deeply about their craft.
Soft lounge vignettes from Folklore helped set the tone for comfort and conversation. A beautiful check-in moment and floral touch from Hartworks welcomed guests right away. Anthony’s guitar created a soundtrack that carried gently through the galleries. Urban Kitchen brought thoughtful flavors that sparked conversation. The education department at MCASD added a playful moment that let people try something new and make something with their hands. And the lighting and rhythms of the museum tied everything together into a setting that felt both elevated and easy.
Behind the scenes, Kathryn Caudle captured quiet, intimate moments that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. And Love Note Media brought the energy of the evening into digital life for everyone who couldn’t attend. Every partner showed up with generosity, talent, and heart.
Community is what made the night special. Planners, florists, photographers, caterers, designers, venue teams, production crews, and so many friends of the industry filled the space with connection and ease. It reminded me why I believe so deeply in gathering with intention. When we slow down together, ideas move more freely, partnerships form, and inspiration returns. I am grateful to every partner who contributed their time and creativity.
My hope is that this is the beginning of more moments that bring our community together at MCASD. If you joined us, thank you for your energy. If not, I hope to welcome you next time.
